WHAT WE OFFER - Programs

Arts Education and Arts
Therapy Learning about nature, providing therapeutic art projects that increase both fine and gross motor skills, encouraging socialization is what our program is geared toward.

Aquatics
The new Zero Depth Entry facility enables all campers the experience of being in the water, regardless of ability. In the heat of the summer it becomes the center of camp life.  Activities include water aerobics, relay races or just simply relaxing the afternoon away. The pool is available for use by community organizations.  Please contact Steven Kiessling for more information, fees and availability.

Fully Accessible Playground
Our playground allows for individual exploration and playtime.  Our swing sets include 2 wheelchair accessible swings.

The Toledo Rotary Foundation and the Lathrop Corporation generously donated the playground.

Outdoor Recreation and Nature Education
Camp Courageous has over 60 acres of woods, wetlands, sand barrens and trails.  Outdoor adventures are the mainstay of our programs. The introduction of adaptive sports skills, hiking, campfires, nature art and education and group activities are on the campers schedule daily. Evenings bring adventures in night hikes, S’mores by the campfire, star gazing, and group entertainment.

Camp Courageous provides developmental appropriate activities for all ability levels.  Programs and activities are age appropriate and allow for full exploration of one’s own abilities, interests and enjoyment.

WHAT WE OFFER - CAMPS

Camp Courageous offers Residential, Day and Respite Weekend camps throughout the summer and fall.

Residential camps begin Sunday afternoon and run through Friday morning. Every camper need is met, including delicious, nutritious meals, daily schedules of activities and programs, 24-hour on site and on-call nursing services.

Campers live in gender-segregated dorms with 24-hour staff supervision. All facilities are fully accessible and meet the standards set by the American Camp Association. Residential camps are for individuals from age 7 to 87. Camp weeks are age specific, allowing for better peer to peer interaction and age appropriate activities.

Day Camps run Monday through Friday from 9am to 3pm. Lunch and snacks are provided, along with a full slate of age appropriate activities and programs. Day camps are for children, ages 7 to 18.

Respite Weekends include all of the fun of a Residential Camp packed into a weekend. Campers arrive Friday afternoon and stay until Sunday morning. Campers are welcome to attend either Residential Camp before or after a Respite Weekend (or stay the whole 2 weeks!!).

Respite is service Camp Courageous provides to the parents/guardians of multi-handicapped children and adults, which allows time for a brief, but usually much-needed rest or “respite.”
Respite not only benefits the caregivers, but also gives opportunities to the developmentally disabled participants to experience new activities, as well as socialize with others.
